OLIVER FOOTWEAR WINS A FAN AT IRAQI OIL RESTORATION PROJECT

2 June, 2005

Safety Manager Harry Henson is working on a project to restore a war damaged Iraqi oil pipeline which crosses the Tigris River near Tikrit in Iraq.

Harry says that the pair of Oliver Footwear GRIPthane lace up workboots he took back to Iraq recently are the most comfortable he has worn in almost forty years.

The security of workers on the project is aided by armed local Iraqi security guards, while the mandatory wearing of combat hats and security vests is evidence of the tough environment surrounding the project site.

Australian Harry Henson is working as Safety Manager of a project to restore Iraqi oil at a site just outside Tikrit on the banks of the Tigris River.

He was recently back home in Australia on leave and before returning to Iraq his last minute dash was to acquire a new pair of work boots.

Harry recently emailed his tribute to Ballarat based Oliver Footwear Australia's leading manufacturer of safety and industrial footwear.

His email reports "I rushed into a store and selected the first pair I saw which happened to be Oliver.

"Where I am working the terrain and conditions are harsh.

"I have been wearing work boots for almost forty years.

"May I tell you that the Oliver boots (Style No. 30 732) I purchased are, by a country mile more comfortable than any I have previously worn."

The Oliver boot style chosen has a long established reputation as one of the most popular lace up boot styles in the Australian building and construction sector.

It features the Oliver GRIPthane dual density polyurethane sole and a padded comfort collar and comes in sand coloured NuBuck leather.

The GRIPthane dual density polyurethane gives a shock absorbing midsole with a hard wearing outer sole with superior slip resistance and the tread pattern providing optimum surface contact and sweeps away lubricants like water or mud.

Oliver Footwear has history extending back to 1887 and is now a fourth generation family owned company.

Comfort has always been a feature of the Oliver Footwear range.

A host of features from the traditional Oliver wide last to specific features including the NATUREform wide profile safety toe cap, the POWERflex impact absorption system which reduces heel strike and leg fatigue, are designed to keep feet more comfortable for longer.

OLIVER ALL TERRAIN (AT's) RANGE NOW IN DUAL DENSITY RUBBER

4 May, 2005

What miners and drillers have been asking for - the Oliver All Terrain Bowen Waterproof Mining Boot.

Oliver Footwear's All Terrain range of safety and industrial footwear has already had great success offering choice with comfort to the building, construction and mining industry workplaces.

In particular the AT's range is popular with workers who spend long hours each day on their feet, especially in the industries where 12 hour shifts are now commonplace.

With the TPU (Thermoplastic Urethane) range a definite market success, Oliver Footwear has now added Dual Density Rubber All Terrain soling to the AT. range.

Known as the 25 Series, the seven upper styles will be the same as the 45 series (TPU) with a choice of lace-up and elastic sided safety boots.

Designed for the harshest of outdoor and mining environments, the 25 series Dual Density Rubber All Terrain soling employs a tough outer layer for an extremely hard wearing sole with a soft inner layer for comfort.

The unique self cleaning sole pattern is specially designed to dislodge stone and mud therefore avoiding a weight buildup.

The entire AT range is made using water resistant uppers.

The innovative features found in the TPU range are also part of the Dual Density Rubber All Terrain footwear:
  • The metal alloy NATUREform protective toecap is 40% lighter than a conventional toecap while still providing the wearer protection against crush or impact injuries.
  • The COMFORTcushion Poron Impact Absorption System is designed to reduce foot, leg and lower back fatigue. This combined with padded ankle support and tongue afford maximum comfort.
  • Unique lace locking devices are a feature of the lace up boots.
"Oliver has responded to the requests of safety officers and procurement personnel as well as their employees at project sites, particularly in northern Australia and the Asia Pacific region, who wanted a safety boot range which is lightweight, comfortable and can handle the toughest possible ground conditions.

"Oliver has recently invested several million dollars in a new Dual Density Rubber moulding machine at our Ballarat manufacturing plant to increase capacity, so this has enabled us to develop a new Dual Density Rubber sole to add to our AT's range and specialised footwear" Oliver Footwear's marketing manager Geoff Roberts said.

The Oliver AT's Dual Density Rubber range comes with an extensive choice of sizes from 5 to 13 with half size increments for 6 ½ to 10 ½.

OLIVER'S BOWEN WATERPROOF MINING BOOT GIVES MINERS WHAT THEY WANT

25 January, 2005
What miners and drillers have been asking for - the Oliver All Terrain Bowen Waterproof Mining Boot.

Around the world, underground miners, shift crews and drillers are demanding the safest, most comfortable and durable footwear for their tough working environments.

Oliver Footwear, Australia's largest industrial and safety footwear manufacturer based in Ballarat Vic. has addressed this challenge by releasing the new Bowen Waterproof Mining Boot, which takes advantage of the latest in footwear manufacturing and materials to meet the resource industry's demands for comfort and safety.

The Oliver Bowen is a 25cm (ten inch) high leg lace up boot which meets the challenges of a tough working environment, where the wearer can stay dry, comfortable and protected.

The Oliver Bowen is a member of the new Oliver AT (All Terrain) range of safety footwear, which employs thermoplastic urethane (TPU) soling to give a lightness not normally associated with workplace footwear.

The TPU sole combines a cushioned polyurethane mid sole for increased comfort with a hard wearing TPU outer sole.

In combination, the sole is lighter than rubber, making it ideal for the long twelve hour shifts often worked underground.

The TPU sole also has a special cleat pattern which is self cleaning to dislodge retained dirt or stones, while the material is hard wearing, abrasion resistant and able to outlast other soling materials.

TPU offers many other features from resistance to premature breakdown caused by hydrolysis, to superior resistance to splitting, cracking and abrasion damage while being resistant to most oils, acids and chemicals.

Oliver Footwear has matched these durability features with a host of other comfort positives.

The boot upper is water resistant, breathable full grain leather while a SYMPATEX fabric water resistant interior which allows perspiration to wick away from the foot, while protecting against the ingress of moisture.

The unique METflex flexible high impact poly metatarsal guard gives the foot even greater protection and the freedom to flex without restriction of the walking gait.

The Oliver Bowen waterproof mining boot also has a high abrasion poly toe tip protector which can outlast the life of the boot itself.

Comfort features include the COMFORTcushion impact absorption system with PORON, to give all day underfoot comfort.

Other added comfort features are a padded boot collar and a full bellow tongue.

A quick release system of speed rings means that lacing or unlacing the boot is a quick and simple process.

Toe protection is afforded by the new high impact alloy toe cap which is 40% lighter than traditional materials.

Oliver's NATUREform Type 1 wide fit exceeds the requirements of the relevant AS/NZS Standard 2210.3.

Oliver Footwear's marketing manager Geoff Roberts says that the new AT's range Bowen Waterproof Mining Boot has been released at recent mining exhibitions and shown at mine sites around Australasia.

"The front line mining crews in places like the Bowen Basin coal mines which endure the tough, wet and safety footwear destroying working environments, tell us this is the mining boot they have been waiting for."

Officially known as Oliver AT's Style 45-690 the size availability is from 5-13 with half size increments from 6 to 10.

AT LAST - SAFETY FOOTWEAR FOR WOMEN WITH STYLE

10 January, 2005
The new Oliver Style 48-420 casual lace up boot in water resistant wheat nubuck leather is one of the six choices in the new Oliver Woman 48 Series of safety footwear.
The Oliver Woman 48 Series range includes lace up boots, casual slip on shoes, a slip on shoe and lace up derby style shoe.
The new Oliver range offers a trendy fashion focus with comfort and safety.

Female members of the workforce have been accepting safety footwear with no style and only modest comfort and safety protection features for years.

Now Oliver Footwear has corrected this deficiency with its new Oliver Woman range known as the Oliver 48 Series of TPU (designating lightweight shock absorbing low density Thermoplastic Urethane soling technology) workplace safety shoes.

The Oliver Woman range comprises six separate footwear choices in four styles - a lace up boot, a casual slip on shoe, a more formal slip on shoe and a lace up derby style shoe.

Two of the models, the lace up boots and the casual slip on shoes, offer colour choices in either a water resistant black nubuck leather upper, or a wheat colour water resistant nubuck leather.

The slip on and lace up shoes are both available in full grain black leather.

Oliver Footwear marketing manager Geoff Roberts, said that the company consulted extensively with women in business or industry who were required to wear safety footwear in the work place or under their job conditions.

"We always received feedback that footwear which was smart, fashionable and comfortable to wear would be keenly sought.

"Much of the safety footwear for women which has been offered has been blocky, drab and looked like it had been fashioned in eastern Europe.

"So Oliver set out to create the 48 Series which is innovative with modern styling and offering all day comfort" Roberts said.

The result is the first range of women's safety footwear in Australia which is looks trendy on the job and smart enough to wear when travelling to and from work.

"Oliver also recognised that many women in tasks like administration, security and logistics spent long hours each day on their feet, so comfort as well as safety was of paramount importance" Roberts added.

The Oliver Woman Series 48 incorporates the new TPU sole comprising a lightweight, shock absorbing low density PU (polyurethane) midsole which cushions the foot on impact to provide unmatched comfort and helps to reduce foot, leg and lower back fatigue.

While the higher density TPU (thermoplastic urethane) outer sole provides superior grip and abrasion resistance.

With excellent slip resistance the TPU outer sole is also colourfast eliminating marking of floor surfaces, has superior resistance to cracking or splitting and is resistant to the effects of hydrolysis.

The TPU soling combination is also lighter than conventional rubber.

Oliver Footwear has complemented the new design 48 Series range with the NATUREform wider profile padded protective toecap, the POWERflex impact absorption system which protects the heel and ball of the foot with its PORON stress reduction performance.

The Oliver Woman Series 48 range is also fully compliant with the relevant safety standard AS/NZS 2210.3.
